So… What is Amazon Prime?

I’m sure you have heard friends talking about Amazon Prime, and you might be wondering what exactly it is. Amazon Prime is a membership program that includes so many benefits. When people think of Prime they generally think of the free two-day shipping, which is certainly a perk. But there is so much more to it than that!

What do you get with Amazon Prime?

Free 2 day shipping for most items – You probably know that you can buy just about anything from Amazon and many of those items are eligible for Prime shipping. The great thing about this is that you don’t need to meet any minimum amount for the purchase.

Free Instant Video Streaming – Similar to Netflix or Hulu, Amazon Instant Video has movies and TV shows that you can stream instantly to your tv. I like that Amazon usually has different shows and movies than Netflix.

Prime Music – This is very similar to Pandora. You can stream music right to your phone (or other enabled device). You can choose and genre of music to listen as a radio station. You can also look up an artist or cd listen to just that. The main difference between Pandora and Amazon Prime music though, is no commercials!

Exclusive deals – Prime members have access to early bird specials, like select lightning deals 30 minutes early.

What is the cost?

Amazon Prime costs $99 per year. You can sign up for a FREE 30-day trial of Amazon Prime here.

Can Amazon Prime help you save money?

If you shop online, at least part of the time, Prime is probably right for you. Even if you’re shopping online through other sellers, you may want to look into switching to Amazon. I like to price compare everything I buy online with Amazon Prime. Usually, Amazon prices are the same or less than elsewhere and with the free shipping, it is almost always the better deal.

Prime will even price match lower advertised prices if you contact them to let them know.

I also have the Amazon app on my phone and I can use the app to compare the price of any item that I’m buying with the price on Amazon. If I find an item in a store I can actually scan the barcode with the Amazon app and it will show me that exact item on Amazon. This is super handy when I’m wondering whether or not something is a good price.
