Super Easy Shredded Chicken

Recipes

Super Easy Shredded Chicken

It is super easy to make shredded chicken! It can be used for so many recipes (like my Best Ever Buffalo Chicken Dip), and you can even freeze it and save it for later! Try this super easy shredded chicken recipe today!

Super Easy Shredded Chicken! This recipe is awesome and can be used for so many things!

All you need are chicken breasts, water, chicken broth and your favorite seasoning. You can use frozen or fresh chicken. I think 2 breasts serve 4 people but you may want to adjust that if you have a particularly hungry bunch.

The Crock Pot Method

Don’t have a crock pot? Don’t worry! There’s a bonus method below.

Tip: If you’ll be serving this for dinner, you may want to add some veggies or potatoes to the bottom of the crock pot to serve with dinner. Most veggies are delicious in the crock pot. Just avoid peas!

Step 1: Put your chicken breasts right in your slow cooker. If I see any fatty parts I just trim those off before I put the chicken in.

Step 2: Add 1 cup water. I like to put a teaspoon of seasoning in the water before pouring it over the chicken. Trader Joe’s everyday seasoning is my favorite. You could use an Italian seasoning blend, or any kind of seasoning that matches what you want to use the chicken for. I recommend adding a pinch of salt to the water.

Step 3: Add ½ cup chicken broth. (optional, but recommended)

Step 4: Cook on high for 4 hours or low for 8 hours.

Step 5: Shred with two forks or with your stand mixer using the cookie paddle attachment.

That’s it! How Easy!

You can adjust this simple recipe and use it for anything that you need chicken for. Here are some examples:

Taco Chicken (for enchiladas, nachos, or anything mexican): Just use taco seasoning.

Teriyaki Chicken: Just add some soy sauce or Teriyaki sauce to the crock pot instead of (or in addition to) the chicken broth and use an appropriate seasoning.

Buffalo Chicken: Just use Frank’s Red Hot instead of the chicken broth.

Italian Chicken: Throw in some Italian dressing.

The possibilities are endless!

If you don’t have a crock pot you can make shredded chicken, it’s just a little less easy. Don’t worry, it’s still pretty easy. You can do it!

The Poaching Method

*You’ll have to use some veggies for this so the chicken has something to sit on. Think potatoes, sweet potatoes, celery, carrots, or broccoli.

Step 1: Roughly chop veggies. They don’t have to be too small.

Step 2: Add enough water so that all veggies are covered. Add a teaspoon of your favorite seasoning.

Step 3: Add ½ cup chicken broth.

Step 4: Bring all ingredients to a boil. Warning: This will happen quickly.

Step 5: Add chicken. Return to a boil without a cover. Boil for 3 minutes.

Step 6: Remove from heat and recover. Let sit for 8 minutes.

Step 7: Flip all chicken breasts over and recover. Let sit for another 8 minutes.

Step 8: Now your chicken is ready to shred!
